Kamloops, B.C. – Two people are dead and three others are in hospital with serious injuries after a wrong-way driver caused a devastating crash on the Coquihalla Highway south of Kamloops.
The collision happened on the night of September 5, just before 9:00 p.m., after police received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle travelling the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Highway 5. Before officers could intervene, the vehicle — a grey Dodge Ram pickup — collided head-on with a white Hyundai Kona hatchback.
Both drivers were killed, and three passengers sustained serious injuries.
“Police are investigating the possibility that criminal behaviour caused this tragic collision,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “We need every available witness who can tell us what the drivers were doing in the minutes and hours leading up to this collision.”
Investigators are appealing for witnesses and dash-camera footage from anyone who was travelling in the area Friday night.
Anyone with information is urged to contact BC Highway Patrol – Kamloops at 250-828-3111, quoting file number (2100) b2025-3075.
