White Rock, B.C. – White Rock RCMP is reminding residents and visitors to stay off train tracks after a risky incident near the pier on August 13.
Around 7:15 p.m., police responded to a stationary train blocking the crossing near the pier head. Instead of using the designated Balsam Street crossing, some pedestrians — including parents with children — were seen crawling under the train or walking along the tracks.
“This is extremely dangerous,” said S/Sgt. Rob Dixon, White Rock Detachment Commander. “A stopped train can move without warning, and anyone underneath or on the tracks is at serious risk of injury or death. Never crawl under a train, enter the tracks against crossing signals, or walk on/along tracks at undesignated crossings. It’s illegal and your safety is not worth the shortcut.”
Police cleared the tracks and stayed on site until the rail line reopened about an hour later.
