Surrry, BC- Three people have been arrested and charged following a Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into a shooting earlier this year that has now been linked to an ongoing extortion case.

The incident happened on March 27, 2025, at around 1:55 a.m., when multiple gunshots were fired at a residence in the 13300 block of 89A Avenue in Surrey. The home was damaged by the gunfire, but no injuries were reported. The victim contacted police later that day, and members of the SPS Frontline Investigative Support Team responded to begin the investigation. The case was later taken over by the SPS Serious Crime Unit.

Investigators determined that the shooting was connected to an active extortion investigation. As the investigation unfolded, officers executed several search warrants with assistance from partner agencies, leading to the identification and arrest of three suspects.

On October 3, 2025, SPS, with the support of other police departments, arrested three men who now face Criminal Code charges.

Mandeep Gidda, 23, has been charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Nirmaandeep Cheema, 20, has been charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Arundeep Singh, 26, has also been charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Both Gidda and Cheema were remanded in custody and appeared in court on October 6, 2025. Singh was also remanded and is scheduled to appear in court on October 8, 2025.

“These three arrests and charges are a positive step forward as Surrey Police Service continues to aggressively tackle the issue of extortions in collaboration with the Provincial Extortions Task Force and other policing partners across the country,” said SPS Chief Constable Norm Lipinski. “Enforcement and all investigative tactics will continue to ramp up as we work together to bring these criminals to justice.”

SPS acknowledged the assistance of the Delta Police Department, New Westminster Police Department, Vancouver Police Department, the Lower Mainland Integrated Forensic Identification Services, and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team in helping to bring the suspects into custody.

Police note that individuals and businesses, primarily within the South Asian community, continue to be targeted by extortion threats in Surrey and across the country. In response, SPS has established its own Extortion Investigations Team and launched a dedicated reward and tip line in partnership with the City of Surrey to encourage community cooperation and information sharing.

Anyone with information about extortion-related crimes is urged to contact Surrey Police Service or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.solvecrime.ca.
