Surrey, B.C. – The City of Surrey has been recognized with two prestigious awards at the 2024 NAIOP Awards for Municipal Excellence, reinforcing its reputation as a top destination for business growth and development. Surrey was awarded the titles of “Most Improved – Fees” and “Most Business-Friendly”, highlighting the city’s efforts to reduce development costs and streamline approval processes.
The awards, presented at the Hotel Vancouver on February 11, 2025, recognize municipalities that excel in supporting business development and job creation.
“These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team in Surrey’s Planning & Development Department,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “Council’s commitment to providing more housing will carry into 2025, as we continue to look for improvements and efficiencies in our approval process.”
Surrey’s ongoing initiatives to cut red tape and encourage investment have played a key role in earning this recognition. By reducing fees and accelerating development approvals, the city continues to position itself as a prime location for businesses, developers, and job seekers.
The NAIOP Awards for Municipal Excellence are an annual survey-based recognition program that evaluates municipalities on their support for economic growth, business development, and job creation. Surrey’s achievements signal its strong commitment to fostering a thriving business environment while addressing housing needs.
