Surrey, B.C. – The City of Surrey is forging ahead with a range of new capital projects aimed at supporting population growth, public safety, and community well-being. One of the newest additions to the city’s capital program is a $30-million replacement for Fire Hall No. 6 in Fleetwood. The current facility, located at 152 Street and Fraser Highway, is set to be demolished to make way for development related to the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain expansion.
Design work for the replacement fire hall is expected to begin in 2026, with construction slated to start in 2027 and completion anticipated in 2028. The project reflects the city’s long-term planning approach and investment in emergency services infrastructure.
“Surrey continues to move forward on key capital projects that will strengthen our community and improve the services people rely on every day,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “We’re setting the stage for spaces and facilities that will serve our residents for years to come. Our commitment is to build a city where everyone feels safe, connected, and proud to call home.”
Meanwhile, progress is being made on several other large-scale initiatives. At the regular council meeting on July 28, City Council received an update on the Cloverdale Sport & Ice Complex. The first two of the facility’s three planned ice sheets are expected to be completed by mid-August, with city staff preparing to begin programming in September. The design of the third ice sheet is nearly finalized, with construction scheduled to begin in October. The project was also highlighted in the June 2025 edition of Award Magazine.
In another development, Council approved a recommendation on Monday to grant the city manager temporary authority to increase the budget for early construction work on the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre expansion. The project is currently in the procurement stage, and the full construction contract is expected to come before council in September. Construction is scheduled to begin in October.
