Surrey, BC — The Surrey RCMP Drug Unit has successfully dismantled a significant illicit cannabis distribution network, leading to the seizure of a large quantity of drugs, firearms, and cash.
The investigation began in early September 2024, when frontline officers responded to reports of illegal cannabis distribution at a shipping business in north Surrey. Upon arrival, officers seized four large boxes of cannabis.
On September 29, 2024, the RCMP Drug Unit intercepted a second shipment at the same location, uncovering 170 pounds of vacuum-sealed cannabis.
The investigation culminated on October 10, 2024, when Surrey RCMP Drug Unit, with support from the Surrey Gang Enforcement Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300-block of Stevens Drive in West Vancouver. A 29-year-old male suspect was arrested, and officers seized the following items:
– $145,000 in cash.
– Over 1,000 psilocybin chocolate bars.
– 4 kilograms of psilocybin.
– 700 pounds of dried cannabis in various stages of packaging.
– Three shotguns.
– Three submachine guns.
– Ammunition.
Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha, Media Relations Officer for Surrey RCMP, emphasized the dangers of illegal cannabis. “Illegal cannabis is not tested or quality controlled and may contain harmful levels of contaminants,” said Cpl. Sangha. “Targeting offenders involved in the illegal drug trade in our community continues to be a top priority for the Surrey RCMP Drug Unit.”
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to identify additional suspects and disrupt further illegal drug activity.
