Surrey, BC – The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is alerting the public about a phone spoofing scam where fraudsters are using the department’s non-emergency number, (604) 599-0502, to deceive residents into revealing personal information.
According to SPS, scammers are making calls that appear to come from their official number. In some cases, the fraudsters even provide a fabricated officer’s name and badge number to gain trust. Authorities confirm these calls are not legitimate and urge the public to remain cautious.
Police Advise the Public to Take Precautions:
• Do not provide personal information over the phone.
• Do not send money or click on any links provided by the caller.
• End the call immediately if you suspect fraud.
• Verify the caller’s credentials by independently calling the official non-emergency number: (604) 599-0502.
A similar scam recently targeted residents in Delta, with fraudsters impersonating The Delta Police Department.
Anyone who receives such a call is encouraged to report the incident to their local police department.
