Surrey, B.C. — Surrey drivers can expect a strong police presence on local roads this December as Surrey Police Service officers join a province-wide impaired driving enforcement campaign aimed at keeping Surrey streets safe during the busy holiday season.
On Saturday, December 6, 2025, hundreds of officers from BC Highway Patrol, Surrey Police Service, RCMP units, and municipal police partners will take part in a one-night enforcement blitz, launching the month-long Winter Impaired Driving Campaign. Officers will dedicate their entire shifts to detecting and removing impaired drivers from Surrey roads and highways.
A major enforcement and media launch event will take place in Surrey at 8:00 p.m. on December 6 at the North Surrey Truck Parking area along Highway 17, about 600 metres east of the Port Mann Bridge. Police will work alongside Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) officers to conduct sobriety checks and inspect vehicles for safety issues. Roadblocks and checkpoints will also be set up throughout Surrey and surrounding Fraser Valley corridors.
Superintendent Mike Coyle of BC Highway Patrol said Surrey drivers should expect the use of Mandatory Alcohol Screening devices and roadside breath tests at checkpoints. Motorists may be required to provide a breath sample, and some traffic delays are expected as officers work to improve safety on Surrey roads.
ICBC road safety manager Kathleen Nadalin encouraged to drivers plan ahead when attending holiday parties by arranging a sober designated driver, using transit, taxis or rideshare services, and ensuring family and friends have safe transportation home.
Police are urging public to make road safety a priority this holiday season and to help prevent impaired driving by planning a safe ride home before celebrating.
