Surrey, BC – Surrey Police Service (SPS) and the RCMP Surrey Police Operations Support Unit’s (SPOSU) Property and Auto Crime Target Team have announced charges against a man in connection with a series of property crimes in Surrey’s Fraser Heights neighbourhood.

The investigation began on December 17, 2024, when a frontline officer from SPOSU responded to a residential break-in where jewellery and sentimental belongings were stolen. Through further inquiries, officers identified a suspect allegedly linked to multiple property crimes committed between December 17, 2024, and January 23, 2025.

On January 29, 2025, the SPOSU Property and Auto Crime Target Team executed a search warrant at a Surrey residence and arrested the suspect. The next day, 29-year-old Tyson Helgason was charged with one count of break and enter and was remanded into custody.

On February 6, 2025, Helgason faced four additional charges, including:
•   Two counts of trafficking in stolen property
•   Two counts of possession of stolen property

Helgason remains in custody and is scheduled for his next court appearance on February 13, 2025.

SPS confirmed the charges in an official press release, stating that they remain committed to targeting property crime and ensuring community safety in Surrey.
