Surrey, BC – On Monday, Surrey–Newton Member of Parliament Sukh Dhaliwal introduced Private Member’s Bill C-239 in the House of Commons, aiming to improve accountability and transparency in Canada’s health care system.
“This bill will ensure greater accountability, transparency, and timely access to care, so every federal health dollar delivers real results for families in Surrey–Newton and across Canada,” Dhaliwal said.
If passed, Bill C-239 would amend the Canada Health Act to require provinces to implement a formal accountability framework for health service delivery. Provinces would need to meet these standards to qualify for the full cash contribution under the Canada Health Transfer.
The bill is currently at the first reading stage in Parliament.
