SURREY, B.C. — A life-changing moment has turned Justin Simporios, 35, into B.C.’s newest multi-millionaire after he claimed the largest lottery prize ever awarded to a single individual in Canadian history — a staggering $80 million Lotto Max jackpot from the May 9 draw.

The Surrey resident, known for being a deep sleeper who “can fall asleep anywhere,” says he spent a sleepless night after learning the shocking news. The winning ticket was purchased at the Walmart Supercentre in Central City, located on King George Boulevard in Surrey.

“It was 10:30 p.m. when I saw that someone in Surrey won,” said Simporios. “I was joking and told my wife, ‘We’re millionaires!’ She told me to stop making that joke — but then I manually checked each number before scanning the ticket. I cried and shouted, ‘We’re millionaires!’”

Waking his wife to share the news, Simporios said she was stunned — and a bit irritated, as their daughter was unwell. “But once she realized I wasn’t joking, she agreed it was worth waking her up!”

Justin’s heart, however, is firmly set on giving back. “I want to help my family and my wife’s family. I’ll pay off my sister’s medical school debt and help my mom retire early — just giving my family a head start in life.”

He also emphasized the importance of community support, especially in Surrey and across B.C. “I’ve struggled before and needed help. Even if I can give an ounce of happiness, I want to help where I can. This feels like a dream.”

The remarkable win marks a milestone in both provincial and national lottery history — the largest jackpot ever won in B.C. and by a single individual in Canada.

congratulations, wow that’s a lot of $$$ for even three families, If you consider giving to a single family of four that’s been to hell and back, and still helps the homeless , we are in need. and appreciative.

Congrats! Giving back is so important.
We alway thought we would start a list of what we would do when we win.

neighbours of mine won years ago.
Unfortunately they had to move away and get security for a while.
I hope that isn’t necessary for you!
