Surrey, BC – An investigation by the Surrey RCMP Major Crime Section has led to charges against 31-year-old Richard Nelson for allegedly assaulting a taxi driver and damaging the vehicle.
On June 22, 2024, Surrey RCMP frontline officers responded to reports of a man who had allegedly robbed a taxi driver and damaged the taxi before fleeing the scene. The suspect was located and arrested shortly after without incident. Fortunately, the taxi driver did not suffer any physical injuries. Nelson was released pending further investigation.
“The Surrey RCMP Major Crime Section took over the investigation, and on September 10, 2024, charges were approved against Richard Nelson, including:
– Assault with a weapon
– Mischief to property,” said Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha in a press release.
A warrant was issued for Nelson’s arrest, and he was located and arrested on September 26, 2024. He has since been released with court-imposed conditions, including no contact with the victim and a prohibition on possessing weapons.
As the case is now before the courts, no further details will be disclosed.
