Surrey, BC –For the second consecutive year, Surrey residents can take advantage of the City’s Free Waste Drop-Off program, running from May 5 to September 24, 2025. This initiative allows households to drop off up to 100kg of waste for free at two Metro Vancouver recycling and waste centres in Surrey—Central Surrey (6711 – 154 St) and North Surrey (9770 – 192 St).
“Getting rid of unwanted waste is easier than ever for Surrey residents with the return of the Free Waste Drop-Off program,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Following last year’s success, where a record 3,300 tonnes of waste were responsibly disposed of, we are excited to offer this service again.”
Each household is eligible for one free trip during the promotion period and can drop off up to four mattresses among other large items. Proof of Surrey residency is required, and commercial or business vehicles are not permitted.
Key restrictions:
- Loads over 100kg will be charged standard rates.
- Limit of one free drop-off per household.
- Residential waste only—no commercial vehicles.
Residents can also drop off recyclable items like electronics, metals, appliances, books, and clothing for free year-round at both centres.
In addition to the drop-off service, Surrey continues to offer the Large Item Pickup Program, which provides free curbside collection of items such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances. Booking is simple at surrey.ca/largeitems or by calling 604-590-7289 (Option 3).
“These initiatives are part of the City’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable and responsible waste management,” said Harry Janda, Manager of Solid Waste. “With two full-service recycling and waste facilities and the Large Item Pickup Program, there is no excuse for illegal dumping in Surrey.”
