Surrey,BC- Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating an overnight shooting at a residence in the Newton neighbourhood early Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the 12300 block of 77A Avenue at approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 7, 2026, after receiving reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a home that had sustained damage as a result of the shooting. Fortunately, no one inside the residence was injured.

The Surrey Police Service Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) has taken conduct of the investigation. Investigators say the case is still in its early stages and officers are continuing to collect evidence related to the incident. Police are also working with partner agencies to determine whether the shooting is connected to any other ongoing investigations.

At this time, SPS believes the incident may be linked to the ongoing series of extortion-related cases in Surrey.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is urged to contact Surrey Police Service at 604-599-0502. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at solvecrime.ca. Please quote file number 26-2010 (SP).
