Surrey, BC – Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers are investigating after a South Asian radio station was struck by gunfire overnight, in what officials believe may be linked to escalating gang violence targeting diaspora communities.
On the morning of September 30, 2025, staff at SWIFT 1200 AM, located in the 13000 block of 76 Avenue, discovered damage to their building and contacted police. SPS frontline officers arrived around 11:00 a.m. and confirmed that bullet holes in an exterior door were caused by gunfire. No injuries were reported.
Police remain at the scene collecting physical and digital evidence. The investigation has now been taken over by the Provincial Extortion Task Force.
The incident comes just one day after the Government of Canada officially listed India’s Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code, enabling authorities to freeze assets and seize property. The Bishnoi group has been linked to violent crimes and extortion schemes targeting businesses and community members across Canada.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area between 8:00 p.m. on September 29 and 6:00 a.m. on September 30. Tips can be provided to the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 (File #25-85681 SP), the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149.
