April 24, 2025 | Ottawa — With just days remaining before Canadians head to the polls on April 28, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre made a bold campaign promise aimed squarely at drivers and auto workers.
Speaking at a rally Wednesday, Poilievre vowed that a new Conservative government would scrap the proposed $20,000 tax on gas and diesel vehicles—a measure he says is being pushed by Liberal-affiliated economist Mark Carney.
“Families are already struggling with affordability. The last thing they need is a massive tax on the vehicles they rely on,” Poilievre said. “A Poilievre government will kill this tax dead.”
The Conservative leader also pledged to remove the sales tax on Canadian-made cars and trucks, a move he says will back Canadian auto workers and reduce costs for consumers.
“This is about supporting our workers while tariffs are still in place—and making it easier for families to afford reliable transportation,” he added.
The announcement comes as affordability, energy policy, and support for domestic manufacturing remain hot-button issues heading into the federal election.
The Conservatives are banking on this messaging to resonate with middle-class voters, particularly in auto-heavy regions like Ontario.
“Vote for Change. Vote Conservative,” Poilievre urged in his closing remarks.
Canadians will cast their votes on Monday, April 28.

The Conservative Policies and politics are close to Trump policies. Therefore they cannot oppose or retaliate against Trump policies towards Canada. Canada is a sovereign and independent country and Trump wants to attack that sovereignty. Defeating the Conservatives is the only way to defend Canada.
