Chandigarh, – In his final decisions as the Sports Minister of Punjab, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who has recently been elected as the Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur, announced significant incentives for Punjabi athletes participating in the Paris Olympics. During a meeting with officials from the Sports Department, Hayer outlined substantial financial rewards aimed at motivating and supporting athletes.
Each Punjabi player competing in the Paris Olympics will receive ₹15 lakh. Additionally, Olympic gold medalists will be awarded ₹3 crore, silver medalists ₹2 crore, and bronze medalists ₹1 crore.
Hayer reiterated his commitment to fostering sports development in Punjab, emphasizing the ongoing work of establishing sports nurseries across the state. “The work of establishing sports nurseries in the state will continue,” he affirmed. The initiative aims to nurture young talent and build a strong sports culture in Punjab’s villages and towns. He also urged officials to accelerate the construction of sports infrastructure to support this mission.
The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary Sports Saravjit Singh, Special Secretary Anand Kumar, XEN Sanjay Mahajan, Deputy Director Parminder Singh, and Assistant Director Ranbir Singh Bhangu. This gathering marked Hayer’s last engagement as the Sports Minister, as he transitions to his new role as an MP.
