Surrey, B.C. — In a proactive move to address escalating concerns around crime in the community, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke held a productive meeting at City Hall with MP Ruby Sahota, Canada’s Secretary of State for Combatting Crime.
During the meeting, Mayor Locke shared pressing concerns raised by residents and business owners regarding recent extortion attempts and violent shootings in Surrey.
“Thank you to MP Sahota for taking the time to listen to the concerns that I shared from our residents and business owners related to recent extortions and shootings,” said Mayor Locke. “We need these thugs in jail, not on our streets.”
Both officials emphasized the importance of collaboration between all levels of government to combat violence and ensure public safety.
“Ensuring Surrey’s safety is a collective responsibility we all share,” Mayor Locke added. “We must stand against violence and intimidation.”
The Mayor reaffirmed the City’s commitment to building a secure and welcoming environment for all.
“Our City is committed to doing everything it can to promote a secure and welcoming community. Together, with the support of all levels of government and our law enforcement teams, we are working to ensure Surrey remains a safe place to live, work, and thrive.”
The meeting marks a continued effort by local leaders to seek solutions and resources to tackle crime and build a stronger, safer Surrey.
