Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the Province of British Columbia have entered into a groundbreaking partnership aimed at driving sustainable aviation, supporting community resilience, and boosting economic growth. Through a signed memorandum of understanding (MOU), YVR and the Province will collaborate with Indigenous partners, communities, and aviation stakeholders over the next three years. The partnership’s shared priorities include accelerating sustainable aviation to combat pollution and reduce emissions, supporting community resilience through emergency preparedness and recovery efforts, increasing clean-tech investment to promote made-in-B.C. technology and create jobs, and expanding trade diversification to meet growing demand for B.C. exports and tourism.
Additionally, the partnership aims to promote workforce development in the aerospace and aviation sectors and enhance goods and people movement, positioning YVR as a key hub for transportation throughout British Columbia. Tamara Vrooman, president and CEO of Vancouver International Airport, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “This partnership recognizes the important role that YVR and B.C.’s aviation sector play in the diversification of the provincial economy, including zero-carbon innovation, technology, international trade, and investment, and skills training.” The Province and YVR both acknowledge the benefits of collaboration in attracting clean investment and talent, driving sustained economic growth, and aligning with B.C.’s StrongerBC economic plan and CleanBC climate plan. YVR is recognized as a vital economic asset and a crucial driver of B.C.’s economy, making this partnership essential for fostering sustainable economic growth and prosperity for all British Columbians.
