Richmond, B.C. – On August 20, 2025, at approximately 10:39 p.m., an officer conducting speed enforcement at the Hwy 91 entry ramp in Richmond observed a Subaru WRX accelerating at a high rate of speed, releasing the accelerator and producing loud exhaust pops.
As the officer entered the highway to follow the vehicle, a second Subaru WRX began pursuing the initial car, also travelling at high speed. The second vehicle initially moved into the outside lane to allow the officer to pass but then accelerated alongside the police vehicle.
The officer recorded the second Subaru travelling at 150 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. The driver, a B.C. New Driver, was stopped and issued a ticket for Excessive Speed under Section 148(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act. The penalty includes a $368 fine, vehicle impoundment for a minimum of seven days, towing fees, and three driver’s licence demerit points.
Richmond RCMP say this is part of ongoing targeted enforcement against excessive speed and high-risk driving behaviours.
“Drivers are reminded to slow down, drive responsibly, and help us keep our roads safe,” police stated.
