OTTAWA, June 13, 2025 – The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, has officially announced that applications for the new Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) will open on June 20, 2025.

The CDB is aimed at providing financial support to low-income working-age Canadians with disabilities. First payments will be issued starting July 2025, for those whose applications are received and approved by June 30, 2025.

Eligible individuals aged 18 to 64 can apply if they have been approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and meet additional eligibility criteria, including having filed their 2024 income tax return with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). If the applicant has a spouse or common-law partner, that partner must also have filed their 2024 tax return.

The application process has been designed to be accessible and barrier-free, with applications accepted online, in person at any Service Canada office, or by phone.

The federal government will also be sending invitation letters to Canadians who may be eligible, encouraging them to apply.
