Ottawa-In a fiery exchange in the House of Commons, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh condemned Rogers Communications for what he described as “hidden fees” being unfairly charged to Canadian consumers. “Canadians already pay some of the highest Internet and cable bills in the world — now Rogers is charging you extra and trying to hide it,” Singh said, directing his concerns towards Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Singh criticized both the Liberals and the Conservatives, alleging that neither party has taken sufficient action to protect consumers from escalating telecom costs. He pointed out that Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre might be reluctant to act, given that his campaign “is funded by the billionaire himself” — a pointed reference to Rogers’ influence in Canadian politics.

During Question Period, Singh challenged Trudeau directly, asking whether the Prime Minister would commit to “rip off the hidden fees” charged by Rogers or, at the very least, refuse to award federal contracts to the company. The exchange highlighted ongoing concerns about the high cost of internet and cable services in Canada, sparking a fresh debate on the need for government intervention to regulate telecom fees and improve affordability for consumers.

As Canadians wait for a response from the Liberal government, Singh’s statement underscores the NDP’s call for greater transparency and regulation in the telecom sector.
