Amritsar, June 29, 2025 – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suspended Amritsar North MLA and former IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh from the party for five years, citing “anti-party activities.”
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia confirmed the disciplinary action, stating, “AAP is a disciplined party. If a leader does anything wrong and goes against the interests of the people of Punjab, we will surely take action. No one is above party discipline.”
Kunwar Vijay Pratap, a high-profile former police officer known for his role in the Bargari sacrilege probe, had been increasingly vocal in his criticism of the party’s functioning in Punjab.
Reacting to the development, Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said, “The suspension of AAP MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap shows there’s no place for dissent or truthful politics under the dictatorship of Arvind Kejriwal. His suspension only vindicates my assertion that AAP is a motley group of bonded labour.”
The suspension has triggered political debate in Punjab, with critics accusing AAP of silencing internal voices, while party loyalists maintain that discipline and unity are non-negotiable for effective governance.
This move comes amid increasing internal friction within AAP’s Punjab unit, which has been facing questions about transparency, accountability, and leadership direction.
