Vancouver- Mercedes-Benz has issued a safety recall affecting 2021-2023 Maybach S-Class vehicles, due to a critical engine software issue. The recall, initiated on September 16, 2024, impacts 1,494 units across Canada.
“A software malfunction in the engine control unit could result in excessive fuel being injected into the engine. This might cause the exhaust system to overheat, which in turn could melt the engine wiring harness. If the harness melts, it could lead to a sudden loss of power to the wheels, creating an increased risk of a crash. Additionally, melted wiring could pose a fire hazard.” Transport Canada posted on the website.
It says, “The malfunction poses a dual threat: loss of vehicle power and a heightened risk of fire, both of which significantly increase the chance of accidents.”
As a Corrective Actions, Mercedes-Benz will notify affected owners by mail and instruct them to bring their vehicles to a dealership for a software update to the engine control unit.
