Surrey, B.C. – A massive plume of smoke was visible across Surrey on Wednesday morning as emergency crews battled a structure fire west of Surrey Central SkyTrain Station.

The Surrey Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was responding to a blaze near 128 Street and 106 Avenue around 8:00 a.m. Multiple fire trucks and first responders rushed to the scene as thick black smoke rose high into the sky, visible from several kilometres away.

Early reports suggest that officers assisted in rescuing people from the burning home before fire crews arrived. The extent of injuries and damage has not yet been confirmed.

Firefighters remain on scene working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes.

Authorities are asking residents to avoid the area and allow crews space to operate.
