Kapil Sharma Receives Extortion Threat in India, Surrey Café Targeted in Shooting
Surrey, B.C. / Mumbai – Bollywood actor and comedian Kapil Sharma is facing serious threats both in India and abroad, raising safety concerns among fans.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested a man from West Bengal for allegedly threatening Sharma and demanding ₹1 crore (approximately CAD $160,000) in extortion. Officials confirmed the accused as Dilip Chaudhary, who allegedly called one of Sharma’s close associates between September 22 and 23, warning that the comedian would be killed if the demand was not met.
Sharma’s team immediately informed Mumbai Police, which registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, Crime Branch officers traced the calls and arrested Chaudhary in West Bengal. He was later transported to Mumbai and produced in court, which remanded him to police custody until September 30 for further interrogation.
According to police sources, the accused invoked the names of notorious gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar while issuing the threats, prompting authorities to treat the case with utmost seriousness. The motive behind the extortion attempt is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, in Surrey, Sharma’s business venture Kap’s Café, located at 85 Avenue and Scott Road, was hit by gunfire for the second time in a month. Multiple shots were fired at the café on Thursday night, though no injuries were reported.
The repeated attacks have alarmed both local residents and Sharma’s fans, with authorities in India and Canada continuing parallel investigations into the threats and shootings.
