Surrey, BC – Canadian retail giant Loblaw Companies Ltd. has announced plans to open 80 new grocery and pharmacy stores in 2025, with approximately 50 locations focused on discount grocery offerings. The expansion is part of a $10 billion investment over the next five years, including $2.2 billion allocated for 2025 alone.

In addition to new store openings, Loblaw has committed to renovating over 300 existing grocery and pharmacy stores across the country next year. The company says this effort will enhance customer experience and meet the growing demand for more affordable shopping options.

The investment also extends to modernizing Loblaw’s supply chain, including the launch of a high-tech distribution centre in East Gwillimbury, Ontario, which began construction in 2022.

Loblaw’s Chief Executive Per Bank emphasized the significant impact of the company’s expansion.

“From opening one of the largest fully automated distribution centres in North America, to introducing dozens of small-format, hard discount stores to communities that need them most, this investment will have a positive impact across the country,” said Bank in a statement.

Since 2020, Loblaw has spent over $8 billion improving and expanding its retail network, along with upgrading its supply chain infrastructure. The new investment plan continues this trend, aiming to boost efficiency and make grocery shopping more accessible and affordable for Canadians.
