Ottawa- Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a significant cabinet shuffle, introducing eight new ministers and reshuffling existing portfolios in a move aimed at rejuvenating his government after Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s sudden resignation.

New Ministers Joining Cabinet:

1.Rachel Bendayan – Minister of Official Languages and Associate Minister of Public Safety

2.Élisabeth Brière – Minister of National Revenue

3.Terry Duguid – Minister of Sport and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada

4.Nathaniel Erskine-Smith – Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities

5.Darren Fisher – Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence

6.David McGuinty – Minister of Public Safety

7.Ruby Sahota – Minister of Democratic Institutions and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario

8.Joanne Thompson – Minister of Seniors

Key Changes in Existing Portfolios:

•   Anita Anand retains the transport ministry while adding the internal trade portfolio.

•   Gary Anandasangaree continues as Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, with additional responsibility for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency.

•   Steven MacKinnon takes over as Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Labour.

•   Ginette Petitpas Taylor becomes President of the Treasury Board.

This reshuffle, coming just days after Freeland’s resignation, reflects mounting internal pressure within the Liberal caucus for leadership renewal and policy realignment. With this revamped cabinet, Trudeau aims to address pressing challenges like housing, economic development, and public safety while preparing for the next federal election.
