SURREY, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia has launched a probe following a police-involved shooting that occurred Monday night in the Clayton Heights area of Surrey.
On Tuesday morning, police tape remained in place near 66A Avenue and 195 Street, as investigators continued to examine the scene. While specific details remain limited, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) confirmed that the shooting involved RCMP officers, despite SPS having jurisdiction in the area.
According to the SPS, the incident is being handled by the RCMP, and the B.C. RCMP is expected to release further information regarding the incident later today.
The SPS stated it will defer the investigation to the IIO, the independent civilian oversight agency responsible for investigating incidents involving police where there has been serious harm or death.
