
Surrey, BC – A significant fire broke out earlier today at a townhouse complex in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood, leading to the evacuation of nearby homes and road closures in the area. The incident occurred near 144 Street between 70 and 72 Avenue, prompting an immediate emergency response.
According to eyewitnesses, five to seven townhouses and at least two vehicles sustained fire damage. The Surrey Fire Department, Surrey Police and Emergency Disaster Services were quickly on scene to bring the situation under control. As of now, no casualties have been reported.
Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, with some residents still waiting to return. In a heartwarming show of community spirit, neighbours in the area are offering shelter to those displaced by the fire.
A City of Surrey Command Post has been set up in the vicinity to coordinate emergency response efforts. Additionally, bus routes in the area have been diverted due to the road closures on 144 Street.
