Mississauga, ON – May 16, 2025 — A family is demanding justice and calling for urgent reforms after Harjeet Singh Dhadda, a respected businessman and community member, was shot and killed in broad daylight on Wednesday in a parking lot near Tranmere Drive and Telford Way, close to the Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Dhadda, 51, was the founder of G&G Trucking Solutions, a transportation safety and insurance company he ran with his family for nearly 15 years. He was widely regarded as a hardworking, law-abiding Canadian, deeply committed to his family and community.

“My father, Harjeet Singh Dhadda, was an honest, hardworking man, a devoted father, and a law-abiding Canadian citizen who served his community with dignity for over 25 years. He went beyond to help each and every person,” said Tanveer Singh Dhadda, the victim’s son.

According to his children, Dhadda had been targeted by extortionists with ties to India. Despite repeated threats, he refused to give in.

“They asked for $500,000 from my dad, but my dad denied it,” said Gurleen Dhadda, his daughter. “He said he’s not going to pay a single penny because he works for it.”

The family says their father’s refusal to be extorted ultimately cost him his life. The gunmen, believed to be connected to international crime networks, attacked him without fear — and with illegal weapons.

“My father did not deserve this,” Tanveer said. “He was not involved in anything criminal. Yet those who came to harm him were armed with illegal weapons, operating with complete disregard for the law and seemingly without fear of consequences.”

The Dhadda family is also raising serious concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement. Despite their office being located in a high-security area near the airport — a zone with significant police presence — the shooting occurred in broad daylight.

“We trusted the authorities to protect us, but they have failed,” said Tanveer. “If such a violent act can take place here, what safety do everyday citizens truly have?”

Calling for legal reform and the right to self-defence, the Dhadda family says it’s time to re-evaluate laws that leave law-abiding families vulnerable.

“When the system fails to protect us, every citizen should have the right to defend themselves,” Tanveer stated. “It’s time to have serious conversations around self-defence, legal reform, and the safety of law-abiding families. We do not want to see another family experience the pain we are living right now.”

Police are investigating the fatal shooting and have not confirmed any arrests at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Peel Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
