Ottawa, ON – Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada Sean Fraser has introduced new legislation in the House of Commons aimed at protecting Canadians from hate crimes and acts of intimidation.
“Too many Canadians lack the ability to live freely and celebrate their identity without fear after the recent rise in hate and violence,” Fraser said.
The proposed law includes specific protections for communities of faith, ensuring that religious institutions can be used without fear of obstruction or intimidation.
“Canadians deserve to live free from hate, regardless of the colour of their skin, the god they pray to, or the person they love,” Fraser added.
The government says the legislation reflects its ongoing commitment to safeguarding diversity, inclusion, and the fundamental rights of all Canadians.
