Ottawa- The Canadian government has announced a comprehensive Border Plan, backed by a $1.3 billion investment, to strengthen border security, bolster the immigration system, and safeguard Canada’s prosperity.
The plan, unveiled by Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs, alongside Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and Ya’ara Saks, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, is built around five key pillars to address pressing challenges:
• Deploying advanced surveillance tools, including helicopters, drones, and cutting-edge technologies.
• Enhancing fentanyl interdiction efforts with new scanners and sniffer dog teams.
• Cracking down on money laundering to disrupt funding for cross-border crimes.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized the initiative on social media, stating, “We’re stepping up to keep our border strong and secure.”
The plan reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding national security while ensuring the efficiency and integrity of Canada’s immigration system.
