Ottawa- In a major policy shift, Canada has eliminated Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for job offers in the Express Entry system, effective March 25, 2025. This means candidates will no longer receive 50 or 200 bonus CRS points for an arranged job offer, including those supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
The move comes after several reports of fraudulent job offers and worker exploitation in the immigration process. Authorities have raised concerns about misuse of the system, where some applicants were securing fake or misrepresented job offers to boost their Express Entry scores, while others faced exploitation by employers demanding illegal payments in exchange for job offers.
Previously, these extra points significantly increased a candidate’s chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. However, moving forward, job offers will no longer provide additional ranking advantages in Express Entry draws.
This change will not impact candidates who have already received invitations to apply in previous draws or those whose permanent residency applications are currently being processed.
The decision marks a significant shift in Canada’s immigration landscape, likely making the Express Entry system more competitive and shifting focus toward other selection factors such as education, work experience, and language proficiency. Authorities have also emphasized their commitment to tackling fraud and ensuring a fair and transparent immigration system.
