Ottawa – The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Canada announced today that updated regulations for the International Student Program (ISP) have officially come into effect. These changes aim to enhance oversight, support international students, and maintain the program’s integrity.
Eligible international students can now work up to 24 hours per week off campus during academic sessions, an increase from the previous 20-hour limit.
Students must now apply for and secure a new study permit before transferring to another designated learning institution (DLI).
Designated learning institutions must comply with stricter reporting requirements, including verifying acceptance letters and submitting regular compliance reports. Non-compliance could result in suspension from enrolling new international students for up to one year.
“These updates strengthen the integrity of the International Student Program while ensuring international students receive a quality academic experience in Canada,” said Minister Miller.
