Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized Vietnam’s growing importance as a key economic partner in the Indo-Pacific during his participation in the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, being held from October 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
“Vietnam is a key free trade partner to Canada — our largest in the Indo-Pacific region. Prime Minister Chính and I agree that there is big potential to expand our partnership and collaborate more on trade, clean energy, and defence, to the benefit of both our nations,” said Prime Minister Carney.
The meeting between Prime Minister Carney and Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính underscored Canada’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with ASEAN nations, with a focus on sustainable economic growth, climate action, and regional security.
The ASEAN Summit brings together leaders from across Southeast Asia and key global partners to discuss shared challenges and opportunities in trade, energy transition, and peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
