October 18, 2025 – Washington, D.C.- The Honourable Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State for International Development, wrapped up a visit to Washington, D.C., where he chaired G7 development minister meetings under Canada’s G7 presidency.

Sarai also represented Canada at the World Bank Group and IMF Annual Meetings, held October 15–17, alongside Minister François-Philippe Champagne. Discussions with global financial leaders focused on sustainable investment, innovative financing, and strengthening partnerships for shared prosperity.

Canada reaffirmed its commitment to global stability with up to $544 million in portfolio guarantees announced earlier this year at the G7 Leaders’ Summit.

Sarai launched the G7 Infrastructure Investment Council, led by FinDev Canada, to boost infrastructure investments in emerging markets.

Ministers also welcomed progress on President Trump’s plan to end the Gaza conflict and discussed ongoing crises in Ukraine, Haiti, and Sudan.

The visit underscored Canada’s role in promoting global cooperation, economic growth, and humanitarian support.
