New Delhi – In a significant diplomatic move, the Canadian Charge d’Affaires was summoned by India’s Secretary (East) this evening. During the meeting, the Government of India conveyed its strong disapproval of what it termed the “baseless targeting” of the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomatic officials in Canada.
India expressed serious concerns regarding the safety of its diplomatic personnel, citing an atmosphere of extremism and violence in Canada, which it attributed to the actions of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government. “In such a hostile environment, we have lost faith in the Canadian government’s commitment to ensure the security of our diplomats,” an official statement read.
As a result, India has taken the unprecedented step of withdrawing its High Commissioner and other targeted diplomats and officials from Canada, signaling a further deterioration in already strained bilateral relations.
The Indian government has also indicated that it reserves the right to take additional measures in response to what it described as the Trudeau administration’s support for extremism, violence, and separatism aimed at undermining India’s sovereignty.
This development marks a new low in India-Canada relations, with potential ramifications for diplomacy, trade, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Kanwal jit Singh Gill says
For years we had never seen violence and threats to the common citizens. But recently we have seen increased violence and threats by the new youngsters coming from India. New arrivals can never do this without full support and guidance from other sources. Which are suspected to be the Indian ruling government’s agents.
