Surrey,BC – Residents of BC’s South Coast and Vancouver Island are bracing for a series of storms that are expected to bring strong winds, heavy rain, and possible flooding. Environment Canada has issued alerts detailing the storm timeline and potential impacts.

A low-pressure system off the BC coast will generate strong winds starting Monday afternoon. Winds are expected to intensify through the evening, affecting western and northern Vancouver Island. By late evening, the winds will spread to the Strait of Georgia and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, impacting East Vancouver Island, Victoria, and areas near Metro Vancouver. Coastal regions of West Vancouver Island may experience flooding due to storm surges. The system is forecast to clear by Tuesday morning.

“A powerful frontal system will arrive on Christmas morning, bringing very strong winds and heavy rain. Conditions are expected to remain severe throughout the day, with impacts lasting into the evening.” Said in a statement issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada.

A weaker low-pressure system will approach Vancouver Island late Thursday, bringing strong winds to the island and the South Coast overnight.

Environment Canada advises residents to monitor alerts and weather updates closely. Flooding and wind damage are possible in affected areas.
