Edmonton, AB – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has arrested a 21-year-old man accused in a string of shootings linked to the organized extortion series known as Project Gaslight.

On September 20, 2025, police arrested Arjun Sahnan at the Edmonton International Airport upon his return from India. He has been charged with two counts of discharging a firearm recklessly and three counts of possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition.

Investigators allege Sahnan carried out three shootings in late December 2023 in Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Sherwood Park. After the incidents, he fled to India. A Canada-wide warrant for his arrest was issued in April 2024, leading to his eventual capture when he re-entered Canada.

The first shooting took place on December 21, 2023, in Edmonton’s Cy Becker neighbourhood. Shots were fired at a family home, striking an upstairs bedroom window where the homeowners were asleep. Four other people, including two children, were also inside at the time.

Just three days later, on December 24, 2023, another home was targeted in northwest Winnipeg. Several family members were inside when bullets pierced a bedroom and passed into an adjacent occupied room. The shooting, captured on security cameras, came after the homeowner had received extortion threats.

A third incident happened on December 29, 2023, in Sherwood Park’s Fountain Creek neighbourhood. Gunfire struck an unoccupied residence, with one bullet traveling into a children’s playroom and hitting a toy box. Police believe the house was mistakenly targeted, as no threats were made against the homeowner.

Ballistic testing confirmed the same firearm was used in all three shootings. While no one was physically injured, police say the attacks were part of a violent intimidation campaign tied to extortion demands.

Sahnan remains in custody as the investigation into Project Gaslight continues.
