Abbotsford, BC – In a concerted overnight effort on Friday, the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) removed 19 impaired drivers from city roads, underscoring the persistent dangers of impaired driving.
“In a single night (Friday), our Traffic Enforcement Unit, in collaboration with Patrol officers, took 19 impaired drivers off the streets of Abbotsford. It’s alarming how many individuals continue to drive under the influence, despite the ease of finding a safe ride home,” said a spokesperson from the Abbotsford Police Department.
One of the most disturbing incidents occurred Thursday afternoon when a 40-year-old woman crashed her vehicle into a tree and became stuck on a concrete median. Police determined she was more than three times over the legal alcohol limit — and was reportedly on her way to pick up her child from school.
“Road safety remains a top priority for AbbyPD. Our officers will continue proactive enforcement efforts to identify and remove impaired drivers from our roads,” the department emphasized.
The AbbyPD is urging the public to make responsible choices and utilize safe alternatives to driving under the influence, especially as summer festivities and gatherings increase across the region.
