STAFF REPORT
March 16, 2024 11:14pm

The Spring is around the corner in Canada however British Columbia`s 10 small communities including the Blue River, Quesnel and Squamish area breaks the temperature records before the Spring season’s first officially day on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. The warmest new record was recorded in Squamish, where it reached 19.5 C, surpassing a previous high of 17 C from 1988. One of the records that breaks had stood for 119 years back in Quesnel on March 15  in 1905. “The weather conditions will also perfectly align for the arrival of the spring break and the new season, with gorgeous late spring-like, and even early summer-like, feels at times over the coming days. Don’t be too quick to pack away all the winter gear however, as the tables will turn once again as we close out the month of March with a countrywide cooldown.”

The Weather Network Forecast Centre posted to Get ready for some gorgeous late spring-like weather across British Columbia as temperatures soar well into the 20s to kick off the March break .Daytime highs in Abbotsford are forecast to hit 23 and 24°C, and if we reach or surpass 23°C, it’ll be the earliest occurrence for a high of 23°C or greater ever recorded in history for the city.

Meanwhile, The BC Wild Fire Service urge the Cariboo region members of the public and industry to be extra vigilant when monitoring and in ensuring the extinguishment of open burns.
At noon on Thursday, March 28, 2024, Category 2 and 3 open fires will be prohibited across the entire Cariboo Fire Centre region. This prohibition includes the Cariboo Chilcotin Forest District, the 100 Mile House Forest District and the Quesnel Forest District.
