Westbound Highway 1 Reopens Through Abbotsford

Abbotsford, B.C. — Drivers travelling westbound through the Abbotsford area can now remain on Highway 1, as two westbound lanes have reopened following receding floodwaters.

The stretch of Highway 1 between Highway 11 and No. 3 Road had been closed due to flooding caused by recent severe storms. With water levels dropping, crews were able to safely reopen westbound traffic.

Eastbound lanes, however, remain closed as water continues to slowly recede. Motorists travelling east are still required to detour via Highway 7. Authorities are urging the public to avoid travel in the area unless necessary.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit says staff are closely monitoring conditions and will reopen the eastbound lanes as soon as it is safe to do so.

Drivers are reminded that highway infrastructure remains vulnerable following recent storms. With more rain forecast, conditions could change quickly, and additional closures — including westbound lanes on Highway 1 — remain possible.

For the latest traffic updates, motorists are advised to check DriveBC.
