Chandigarh- In a significant political development, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was recently declared ‘Tankhahiya’ by the Akal Takht, has submitted his resignation to the party’s Working Committee. His decision marks the end of his tenure as the party’s chief, paving the way for the election of a new leader.

In his statement, Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed gratitude to party leaders and workers for their unwavering confidence in his leadership and for extending their wholehearted support throughout his tenure.

To address the resignation and chart the party’s future course, SAD Working Committee President S. Balwinder Singh Bhundar has called an emergency meeting. The meeting is scheduled for November 18, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the party headquarters in Chandigarh.

Senior SAD leader Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema stated, “The committee will review Sukhbir Singh Badal’s resignation and decide the next steps for the party.”

The resignation comes just weeks ahead of the scheduled elections for the posts of President, office bearers, and members of the Working Committee, slated for December 14, 2024. The elections mark the conclusion of the current five-year term.

This development is expected to trigger significant changes in the party’s leadership as it prepares for the upcoming elections and future political challenges.
