Surrey,BC- Surrey Police Service Chief Constable Norm Lipinski, along with several officers, met with local business owners at the Payal Business Centre to discuss community safety and provide an update on how police are addressing the recent rise in extortion cases.
During the meeting, Chief Lipinski outlined the steps SPS has taken since Surrey began experiencing a spike in extortion threats and related violence in June 2025. He emphasized the importance of working closely with the business community to prevent crime, share information, and ensure victims feel supported.
As part of its response, SPS continues to operate a dedicated Surrey Extortion Tip Line, monitored seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., allowing the public to report information or concerns related to extortion incidents. In addition, the City of Surrey has established a $250,000 reward fund for individuals who provide key information that assists investigations into extortion cases.
Police say community engagement, timely reporting, and cooperation between residents, businesses, and law enforcement remain critical as efforts continue to combat extortion and improve safety across Surrey.
