Chandigarh- In a decisive move to combat the growing drug menace, the Punjab government has announced a large-scale anti-drug campaign set to launch in the coming weeks. The initiative, spearheaded by law enforcement agencies, will involve strict action against drug trafficking networks and comprehensive rehabilitation measures for addicts.
According to an official directive from the Office of the Chief Secretary, all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across Punjab have been instructed to ensure an adequate number of rehabilitation and drug de-addiction centers are fully equipped with Buprenorphine medication, testing kits, and essential staff. The preparations are expected to be completed within two days, as the campaign will be executed on a war footing.
Acknowledging the potential distress this crackdown may cause among habitual drug users, the government has emphasized the need for a structured de-addiction process to help wean addicts off drugs safely.
DCs have been warned that any laxity in implementing these directives will result in strict disciplinary action. The entire exercise will be personally monitored by the Chief Secretary’s office, with IAS officer Sandeep Kumar tasked with inspecting rehabilitation centers and reporting any deficiencies.
This move comes as Punjab continues to struggle with rising drug abuse cases, which have plagued the state for years. The government’s latest efforts indicate a zero-tolerance approach towards drug-related activities while ensuring affected individuals receive necessary medical and psychological support.
