Richmond, BC — Richmond RCMP is warning the public after a man was arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer in a troubling incident that unfolded over the long weekend.
On May 18, 2025, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Richmond RCMP received a report from a concerned motorist who believed he had been pulled over by someone pretending to be a police officer. The complainant stated that he was driving a beige Dodge Grand Caravan with Ontario licence plates when he was stopped by a grey Ford Mustang equipped with red and blue lights.
According to police, the driver of the Mustang approached the complainant’s vehicle wearing a police badge lanyard and requested to see his driver’s licence. Sensing something suspicious, the complainant refused to comply, drove away, and contacted RCMP from a safe location.
Shortly after, the same suspect called 9-1-1 claiming he was following a possible impaired driver. Richmond RCMP officers responded and arrested the man for impersonating a police officer.
The suspect is described as a 39-year-old South Asian male, standing between 5’8” and 5’10”, with a medium build and a salt-and-pepper goatee. At the time of the incident, he was wearing dark grey clothing, a dark-coloured satchel bag, and a police badge lanyard.
“To date, we have not received any similar reports involving this vehicle or suspect, but are issuing this public warning to identify other potential victims and to prevent any further victimization,” said Inspector Mike Roberts, Officer-in-Charge of Frontline Operations.
The Richmond RCMP is seeking additional witnesses and dash cam footage from anyone who may have been in the area of No. 2 Road between Westminster Highway and Francis Road on May 18 between 12:45 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212, quoting file number 2025-15521. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.solvecrime.ca.
