Chandigarh – In a rare show of unity, major student leaders at Panjab University have gathered near the Administration Block to protest what they describe as “excessive interference” by Chandigarh Police on campus.

With a heavy police presence ahead of the upcoming university elections, students allege that challans are being issued inside the campus and are demanding that all security checks be limited to the university gates.

Leaders from across political groups say the heightened police activity is disrupting academic life and infringing on student freedom.

Chanting slogans such as “We are not criminals, we are students,” protestors called for an immediate rollback of the current security measures.
