Surrey, BC- A fatal stabbing in Surrey on Friday afternoon has left one person dead, another injured, and a suspect deceased following an officer-involved shooting.

According to Surrey Police Service (SPS), frontline officers responded at approximately 1:00 p.m. on May 29 to a report of an assault at a building in the 13300 block of Old Yale Road.

When officers arrived, they located two victims suffering from stab wounds. The male suspect had fled the scene before police arrived.

SPS officers and BC Emergency Health Services personnel provided emergency medical treatment to both victims. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was transported to hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been notified and will take conduct of the homicide investigation.

A short time later, police located the suspect a short distance from the scene. During a confrontation with officers, police discharged their service-issued firearms, seriously injuring the suspect. The suspect was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the police shooting. As the IIO BC investigation is now underway, police say no further information will be released regarding the officer-involved incident.

The homicide investigation remains ongoing.
