Windsor, ON – As U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs threaten Canada’s auto manufacturing sector, Liberal Leader Mark Carney has announced a new $2 billion plan to protect Canadian auto workers, strengthen manufacturing, and counter U.S. trade barriers.
“There’s no building without manufacturing, no manufacturing without strong workers, and no workers without strong unions,” Carney said. “We will protect workers from American tariffs, create higher-paying jobs, and build an all-in-Canada auto manufacturing network.”
Key Highlights of the Plan:
$2 Billion Strategic Response Fund to boost competitiveness, protect jobs, and support worker upskilling.
“All-in-Canada” Auto Manufacturing Network to increase domestic production of car components and reduce cross-border dependence.
Maximizing Canada’s Natural Resources by using more Canadian steel, aluminum, and critical minerals in auto production.
Prioritizing Canadian-Made Vehicles in government procurement to drive investment.
This initiative builds on the Liberal plan to remove federal internal trade barriers, cut middle-class taxes, expand EI access, and use tariff revenues to support Canadian workers.
With growing trade tensions, Carney’s plan aims to secure jobs and protect Canada’s auto industry from U.S. tariffs.
